Sooo, I went ahead and ordered the 40D with the 28-135mm lens. Wheee! I only have about $200 left to my name, but whatever, that'll change. I hope it was worth it. It should arrive within the week!

My seemingly broken 75-200mm f/4 L seems to be working just fine despite being grossly deformed...okay then! It'll take a bit more shooting with it to see if it truly is working up to par or not. I have yet to bring it into Ritz for their opinion. I'm assuming what was broken was just a protective layer.

EDIT: IT'S HERE! It arrived yesterday; I wasn't expecting it until Thursday or so! I've been playing around with it and I'm really loving this camera, as well as the 28-135mm lens.

I went over to Ritz today to buy UV/polarizer filters, and I brought my 70-200mm with me for them to check it out. The guy was surprised at its condition, as usually the UV filter will break rather than the lens itself being damaged. The lens was hit at a weird angle though, cracking the corner of the top of the lens. Anyway, he said I should certainly have it fixed since the loose shard of glass could be scratching the lens, which will cause further problems. He gave me the number of a guy nearby who might be able to do it; I'm going to give him a call, since I don't want to send it out. I'm expecting this to be costly, nonetheless. I still can't believe I did this.
